On a Roll or Feeling More Like a Rock?
2014 has been brought in with a bang, a toast, a kiss and about a billion Facebook updates encouraging all to embrace the possibilities of the upcoming year. Blech, I'm over it.
Ha! It's only day 2 and I'm sick of hearing about fresh starts and resolutions. Not that I'm not in favor of all that stuff, but truth be told the holidays have worn me out. I'm not feeling refreshed. I'm not feeling excited about what the new year has to bring. In fact, I need to get real honest here... I'm scared.
When I look at the year ahead I see an uphill battle. I see our finances getting tighter before we find some breathing room. I see my marriage needing to break down some strongholds that are not going to fall away easily. I see our college student struggling with being equipped to live on his own. I see another of my step-kids dealing with upheaval in his mother's home. I wonder how much my 2 "originals" are going to feel abandoned by their father as he misses another year of their lives. I fear conflict over how to handle "attitude outbreaks" with our 8-year-old. There are some rocks in our blender.
As for my professional life, I'm not feeling very creative or inspired at work. I think I see the direction God is leading me, but I don't feel strong enough, prepared enough, smart enough, talented enough. Does that ever happen to you?
Here's what I think. I need a vacation to recover from the holidays! This idea that you take January 1st off and then launch into the new year with new vigor... that concept was not created by a multitasking momma. So here's my New Year's Resolution (I just thought of it)... next year I'm taking a vacation after Christmas. Maybe even all by myself. Something to help me regroup and recharge.
As for this year.... well it looks like once again I'll be putting on my big girl boots. I will step forward and deal with every issue, every stronghold, every attitude, every barrier. 2014 will be a good year. No, scratch that, it will be a GREAT year, because I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Hope you'll stick with me. It's going to be one heck of a ride!
And while we're at it, I found these 10 Mom Prayers on iMom. Will you pray them for me? I'll pray them for you, whether you're a blendie mom or regular.
